É dia das mentiras, mas o que se passou foi mesmo verdade: em 1966 saíu a público a notícia que o Beatle Paul McCartney tinha morrido num tragico acidente de automóvel e que tinha sido substituído por um duplo, de nome William Shears Campbell (o Billy Shears do Sgt. Pepper's)!
Quem pensar que estou a fazer uma partida de 1 de Abril extremamente redundante, que tome a liberdade de ler a Wikipedia e vai ver que não estou a mentir.
Aparentemente, esta teoria da conspiração do Paul Is Dead tem uma legião de seguidores que encontraram inúmeras pistas na própria música e comportamento dos Beatles que sugere que isso realmente teria acontecido. É incrivel a quantidade de simbolismo que estas pessoas conseguiram vislumbrar nas capas dos albuns dos Fab Four - só a do Sgt. Pepper's tem inumeros sinais que demonstram que os restantes três elementos da banda queriam fazer passar a mensagem de que McCartney tinha realmente morrido.
Um excerto da Wikipedia sobre a capa do Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Herts Club Band:
«McCartney is the only person holding a wooden instrument, representing his coffin, and the instrument is the only one that is black, representing death. The instrument itself is a cor anglais, which is the only instrument shown on the cover which is not used in a marching band. Paul's "true" instrument would have been the tuba, which is sitting unused at feet of the wax figure of Ringo. Paul is the only Beatle wearing a "cool" color (blue), while the other three Beatles are all wearing warm colors. It also appears like he's being propped up by Ringo Starr and Harrison, as if rigor mortis had set in. McCartney is the only person with a hand over his head, a religious symbol for blessing the dead. The hand belongs to Stephen Crane, an American writer who died at the age of 28. Paul is taller than John and George, possibly indicating that it is possibly 'the replacement' in the photo, as Paul, John, and George are the same height.»
Entretanto, e aproveitando a deixa, o Sgt. Pepper's (EMI / Apple, 1967) é um album excelente, obrigatório, que merece ser ouvido com atenção. E sim, isto ainda é verdade!

Fabulosa a criatividade das pessoas.
Também há a famosa história da capa do Abbey Road, a marcha fúnebre com o Paul descalço, o Ringo cangalheiro, o George escavador, e o John, "agente religioso".
